MTV asked Odopod to create a powerful and flexible Flash-based system that could be reused for all of their annual award properties. Odopod’s custom solution launched with the 2006 Video Movie Awards site.

With the arrival of the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), the pressure was on. Not only did the site support MTV’s biggest event, it would use the new MTV.com framework. We designed and engineered an interface that could be totally customized and re-skinned, and that could support a variety of multimedia content types.

Category Voting allowed the public to view and nominate videos and to select winners for the first time in VMA history. The interactive video playlist builder is a widget enabling users to browse MTV’s massive library and create a video playlist selecting from every nominated music video ever. Via the comprehensive archive, users can also view highlights from each year’s show and watch every music video ever nominated for a Moonman award.

The site traffic shattered all previous records with over 10 million unique visitors to the site on the day of and after the show. We love those kinds of numbers.
