The Giant for Women Ride Society was created and developed by a unique cross section of women brought together for one common purpose – to be a resource for women riders. It offers a community for women to help support one another and their common passion for bicycling. It's a place for women riders to share, connect, and learn about one another and their unique experiences.
Odopod designed GiantforWomen.com for Giant Bicycle Inc. in collaboration with the Ride Society Leaders - a select group of competitive riders, enthusiasts, and bicycle professionals. Odopod saw an exciting opportunity to use Expression Engine as a robust back-end. The use of EE allows us to manage the Ride Society's publishing schedule, have an ongoing dialog with the public, and maintain a member list for the Ride Society. The homepage of GiantforWomen.com is a Flash site with RSS feeds populating the modules from the Expression Engine back-end.
The site allows users to learn about the Ride Society Leaders, read their posts, and sign up for membership in the Ride Society (entering them into the Quarterly Giveaway and establishing a channel of communication with members). For more experiential and visually rich components - such as the Bike Finder - Flash movies are embedded seamlessly within the HTML templates.
The site launched in February 2006 and we continue to expand its features and functionality. Added in 2007, the Ride Finder helps women find each other to coordinate a ride.
I too am a woman cyclist and loved being able to bring my personal experience to bear.
