The California Academy of Sciences is one of the most forward-thinking institutions of its kind. They called upon Odopod to develop a mobile strategy that would extend their mission beyond the walls of the museum.
We started by taking a fresh new look at their mobile site and created an experience uniquely suited for visitors on-the-go. Our next mission was to create an iPhone app that would bring visitors into Cal Academy's larger home inside San Francisco's beautiful and sprawling, Golden Gate Park.
The Golden Gate Park Field Guide is a utility of exploration that gives users fun ways to navigate all of the amazing features and hidden gems the park has to offer. Full of adventure walks, hikes, trails, and park history, the app has something for everyone. Its shining feature is the ability for users to participate by adding their own "Sightings" of plant and animal species, taking snapshots of their findings and marking them all on a location-aware map.
The useful and dynamic feature set designed for learning and exploring, matched with a delightful user interface makes this app truly an extension of the museum and a wonderful way to explore our natural world. It's always rewarding working with our friends at Cal Academy and continuing to imagine the future of the mobile museum.
As a long time Bay area resident I'm blown away by how much new stuff I can learn about a park I've visited countless times. Great, useful app.
