Like the Oscars but Cool

MTV‘s annual awards shows garner a viewership in the tens of millions. Despite their success, MTV had a problem. Every year they built websites for each of the award shows from the ground up. Once the show went away, so did the website, never to be seen again.

Building on our experience with the SpikeTV.com project (MTV’s sister —or should we say brother — network), Odopod helped MTV develop a powerful and flexible Flash-based system that can be totally customized and re-skinned, as well as supporting multiple media types. Best of all, the system can be reused.

The 2006 MTV Movie Awards site, the first award show site built using the awards show engine, serves as the blueprint for all of the MTV Awards sites that follow in its footsteps.

The site includes a slew of cool features like category nominee voting, interactive viewer polls, video highlights and performances from the show, photo flipbooks, ringtones, news, Podcasts and opt-in alerts.

Inspired by the classic illustrations of Saul Bass, we created a visual style that gives a nod to the golden age of Hollywood. Although the site is built on a template-based framework, the system allows for a wide range of visual customization, which was a key requirement for the project’s success.

A reusable infrastructure that can be totally customized, re-skinned and able to support multiple media types - perfect for events over the years.
