Beyond the Pitch

In the spirit of the 2006 World Cup, Nike wanted a sure-fire way to get fans deeply invested in their four star players on the U.S. Men’s National Team.

Odopod developed the Nike Soccer "Player 360s," a set of four short videos, each focused on one of Nike’s star players. In a few short minutes, each video provides insight into what it takes to become and succeed as a professional player. Athletes are typically painted as invincible, perfect, and on a pedestal. We looked to flip this convention, exposing the moments where these athletes are human, and more like their fans who watch them.

We tirelessly researched each player’s background and headed off to each athlete’s hometown to get the inside scoop from friends, families and former teammates. Traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe, our crew got the skinny on Eddie Johnson, Landon Donovan, DaMarcus Beasley and Oguchi Onyewu (Gooch).

Fans were able to find the Player 360s on nikesoccer.com, JogaTV, thisisamericansoccer.com and YouTube.com.

Each video exposes the real moments where these athletes are human, and more like their fans who watch them.
