Working with Wieden + Kennedy, we created ItsRedAgain.com, the global centerpiece of Starbucks’ 2006 holiday campaign. The theme of the campaign was "On with the Tradition" and the URL was printed on every red Starbucks cup around the world. That’s a lot of cups.
The site’s front-man was a wise-cracking narrator known as the "Tradition Keeper." As Master of Ceremonies, he invites users to craft and send quirky personalized greeting cards. Each card includes a voice greeting either recorded by phone or created through a text-to-speech system. Messages are then delivered to loved ones by sweet but strange holiday "SpokesToys." Lastly, users are encouraged to tell the story of their favorite holiday tradition and attach it to the map - creating a collection of traditions from around the world.
The site’s visuals were centered on an old desk filled with traditional greeting cards that had come alive with a bit of holiday magic. The result? A site steeped in tradition, yet wholly new.
