Yahoo! was planning a new technology site geared for non-geeks. Odopod and Cuban Council combined forces to solve the problem.
The focus of Yahoo! Tech is on the everyday user rather than the power user. Yahoo! also wanted to focus on meeting the needs of female technophiles, who have been largely ignored in technology media to date.
Yahoo! Tech offers expert reviews, product comparisons, how-to’s, video shows, blogs and user-submitted content. The design of the site is simple, clean and easy to use, and innovative. The flexible site layout is designed to switch between 800 x 600 and 1024 x 768 screen resolutions. Content tagging is used as navigation to access the most commonly researched products. Ajax-based product search widgets provide users with quick price and feature comparisons. And, the My Tech personalized section enables users to save searches, create lists and receive product recommendations based on products they already own.
Lastly, all of the products on the site are a single click away from purchase, leveraging the powerful Yahoo! shopping engine.
